Grilled Cat

  1. Yikes! A cat and a Wolfe! lol

Many years ago we had a cast iron wood stove and a grey cat names Pyewacket (see the movie 'Bell, Book & Candle'). Pyewacket loved to lie on top of the stove as it was nice and cool in the summer. However, once we started building fires in the fall and winter, all I could think about was her jumping up on it and her poor paws getting seared and stuck to the metal. So once we built the first fire of the fall, I got a good grip on her and lowered her down towards the stove until she felt the heat. And boy, did she feel it, she wanted *away*! So I put her back on the floor and she never went back to the stove. However, once we quit building fires in the late spring, I reversed the process, getting a tight grip on her and walking towards the stove. When she realized where we were headed, all hell broke loose! I dropped her onto it, she realized it was cool again and stretched out and enjoyed it for the rest of the summer and early fall. Once we started building fires again I repeated the previous fall's process. This cycle went on for years until we moved, and she never once forgot what time of the year it was. Smart cat (but naturally cranky as all get-out!).
